Rope sockets are forged steel fittings used to terminate wire rope ends in traction elevators. The rope end is inserted into the socket and secured with molten zinc, resin, or a wedge-type mechanical grip. Two main types exist: poured sockets, which use molten metal for a permanent connection, and wedge sockets, which allow field adjustment. Rope sockets must be rated for the full breaking strength of the rope. Regular inspection is required to detect corrosion, cracking, or zinc pull-out that would compromise safe load transfer.
