Wedge sockets consist of a tapered steel body (the socket) and a matching steel wedge. The rope is threaded through the socket, bent around the wedge, and the assembly is pulled tight so the wedge grips the rope securely inside the socket under load. Wedge sockets are field-adjustable, do not require pressing or swaging equipment, and are commonly used at the rope hitch plate in the machine room or at counterweight terminations. They must achieve the minimum breaking force retention required by EN 81-20 and the rope manufacturer's specification.
