The car sling — also called the car frame — consists of a crosshead at the top, a safety plank (or safety shoe beam) at the bottom, and two uprights connecting them. The suspension ropes or chains attach to the crosshead, while the safety gear and guide shoes are mounted on the uprights and plank. The sling carries the full rated load of the car and its contents, and must be designed with adequate safety factors per EN 81-20 and ASME A17.1 structural requirements.
