The pit inspection panel provides an emergency stop device, up/down run buttons, and an enable switch that transfers control to inspection mode, disabling normal or automatic operation. When in pit inspection mode, the car moves only at reduced speed (≤0.63 m/s per EN 81-20) while the run button is continuously pressed, preventing accidental car movement during pit maintenance. The panel must be sited so the technician can see the car bottom and must meet EN 81-20 ergonomic and safety category requirements. A pit lighting switch is commonly co-located.
