Hoistway lighting consists of permanently installed luminaires along the full shaft height, enabling safe maintenance access on the car top and in the pit. EN 81-20 requires minimum 50 lux at car top and pit floor, fixtures spaced no more than 7 m apart vertically. Lighting must remain energised when the main switch is open. Fixtures must be IP44 minimum and switched from car top and pit entry.
