The pit lighting outlet consists of a fixed luminaire and a 230 V socket outlet installed in the elevator pit to provide safe working conditions for maintenance personnel. EN 81-20 requires a minimum illuminance of 50 lux at pit floor level, controlled by a switch at pit entry. The socket outlet allows use of portable tools and test equipment. Both the light and socket must be protected by the pit lighting circuit breaker and must remain energised when the main switch is open. IP44 or higher rating is required for the damp pit environment.
