The lighting circuit breaker is an overcurrent protective device dedicated to the elevator car lighting, pit lighting, and machine room lighting circuits. Standards require lighting circuits to be protected independently from the power circuit so that a lighting fault does not de-energise the drive. The breaker must be rated for the total connected lighting load plus a safety margin, and must be readily accessible for reset. EN 81-20 requires that car lighting remain functional even when the main power switch is open, typically via a separate fused circuit.
