The EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is the legal instrument by which the responsible party — typically the lift installer — attests that a specific lift installation complies with Directive 2014/33/EU and the applicable harmonised standards (primarily EN 81-20). The DoC must include: identification of the lift (unique serial number, building address), reference to the applicable directives and standards, name and address of the notified body that conducted the conformity assessment, its certificate number, and signature of the authorised person. CE marking is affixed to the lift only after the DoC is issued. The DoC must be kept for 10 years and provided to market surveillance authorities on request. Without a valid DoC, the lift cannot legally be put into service in the EU.
