The sill brush is a flexible bristle strip installed in the door sill channel to prevent foreign objects — coins, keys, small items — from dropping into the sill groove and obstructing door travel or causing a safety hazard. Clogged sill grooves are a major cause of door misalignment and landing door interlock failures. Sill brushes are also used at the car and landing sill interface to reduce the transfer of dirt and reduce noise. They must be compatible with the sill groove dimensions and must not impede door shoe travel. Replacement is straightforward and typically performed during routine maintenance when bristles become worn or matted. EN 81-20 specifies maximum sill gap dimensions, and sill brushes contribute to maintaining these tolerances.
