Ride quality monitoring systems use accelerometers, gyroscopes, and position encoders mounted in or on the elevator car to capture vibration data during every trip. The data is analysed against comfort standards such as ISO 18738-1 (Measurement of ride quality for lifts) which defines acceptable limits for vertical and horizontal vibration, jerk, noise, and door performance. When parameters exceed thresholds, the system generates maintenance alerts. Cloud-connected monitoring allows trending over time — detecting gradual guide rail roughness, rope elongation, or buffer condition changes before they cause passenger complaints. Some systems use machine learning to distinguish normal variation from anomalous patterns. Ride quality data is increasingly used as a KPI in elevator service contracts, replacing purely schedule-based maintenance with condition-based approaches.
