Remote elevator software updates (OTA updates) allow the elevator manufacturer or service organisation to push firmware revisions, parameter adjustments, and new feature activations directly to the elevator controller over a secure network connection. The update process includes pre-upload validation, checksum verification, staged rollout (one car at a time in a group), automatic rollback on failure, and post-update self-test. Cybersecurity is critical: updates must be cryptographically signed, delivered over encrypted channels, and authenticated by the controller before installation. Remote updates reduce software maintenance costs, enable rapid bug fixes and safety patches, and eliminate software version fragmentation across a large installed base.
