A magnetic position sensor used to detect the presence of vane plates or magnets in the elevator hoistway to determine car position and door zone.
Full Definition
Hall effect sensors are solid-state magnetic sensors mounted on the car or in the hoistway to detect steel vanes or permanent magnets fixed at defined positions in the shaft. They provide signal pulses used by the controller to determine: (1) door zone (car is at a landing level), (2) levelling zone (fine position for accurate stopping), and (3) floor count for position reference. Hall effect sensors replaced mechanical switches in modern installations due to their longer life, no physical contact, immunity to contamination, and ability to provide both digital and analogue position signals. They are also used in absolute encoder systems as reference markers.
