The elevator GSM module is a cellular modem (2G/4G) integrated into or connected to the elevator controller, providing wireless communication for: automatic fault alarm transmission to a monitoring centre; emergency telephone calls from the cabin; remote diagnostics and parameter access; and IoT data upload to cloud platforms. The module uses a SIM card on a cellular network and must maintain connection in the hoistway environment, which may require an external antenna. EN 81-28 covers remote alarm requirements. Battery backup ensures the module remains active during mains failure. Signal strength testing at commissioning is critical, especially in basement or high-rise shafts. Many modern modules support dual-SIM for network redundancy and include MQTT or REST APIs for cloud integration.
