Elevator eco mode (energy-saving mode) is a controller-managed state activated after a configurable period of inactivity in which the system reduces power consumption by dimming or extinguishing cabin lighting, turning off ventilation fans, lowering standby heating/cooling in the machine room, and parking the car at a preferred floor to avoid unnecessary travel. Modern VFD-equipped elevators also reduce DC bus voltage to the minimum needed for idle monitoring. The elevator returns to full operation within milliseconds of a call. Eco mode implementation aligns with the ISO 25745 elevator energy efficiency standard and contributes to building green certification (LEED, BREEAM). Energy savings from eco mode can represent 15–30% of total elevator electrical consumption depending on traffic patterns.
