An elevator glass cabin (panoramic or observation cabin) uses tempered or laminated safety glass panels — typically 10–12 mm thick — for one or more wall surfaces, allowing passengers to view the surrounding building interior or exterior atrium. Glass panels are bonded or clamped to stainless steel or aluminium structural frames rated for the impact and pressure loads specified in EN 81-20 clause 5.4. Glass selection follows EN 12600 impact resistance requirements. The cabin frame must maintain structural integrity under emergency loading. Interior lighting is typically LED strip integrated into the frame perimeter. Panoramic cabins require additional hoistway structural provisions and are often used in shopping centres, hotels, and corporate atriums. UV-filtering and anti-reflection coatings are available for sun-exposed installations.
