An elevator glass door uses a framed or frameless tempered or laminated glass panel as the door leaf for cab or landing doors. Glass thickness is typically 10–12 mm for tempered or 6.6 mm laminate. Frameless designs use stainless steel patch fittings and top hanger clamps. Framed designs incorporate a steel or aluminium perimeter frame with the glass bonded or gasketed in. EN 81-20 requires that glass doors have opaque or frosted lower panels to prevent exposure of feet, and that glass used in door panels meet EN 12600 Class 1B1 impact resistance. Vision glass in doors improves natural light transfer between landings and cab, reducing lighting energy. Automatic cleaning features (anti-fingerprint coatings) are popular in high-traffic applications. Fire-rated glass options exist to EN 81-58.
