The floor selector is the logical component of the elevator control system that maintains a real-time map of car position, direction, and pending calls. In relay-logic systems it was a physical rotating drum or cam assembly that advanced with car movement. In microprocessor controllers it is a software module processing encoder position data. The floor selector determines stopping order — whether to serve calls in the direction of travel first (collective control) or by priority algorithm (destination dispatch). It generates floor-arrival signals for door opening, decelerating calls, and hall lantern indicators. Accurate floor selector calibration is essential for on-time levelling and must be verified after any work on the position encoder, brake, or drive parameters.
