The fascia plate (hoistway fascia or apron) is a vertical sheet metal panel installed on the hoistway wall above each landing door opening. It closes the gap between the top of the door frame header and the underside of the floor slab above, preventing anyone from reaching into the hoistway from the landing. The fascia plate is typically perforated or solid steel and must be securely fixed to prevent displacement. It also helps channel airflow within the hoistway. On some installations, the fascia incorporates ventilation louvres for controlled air movement.
