EN 81-58 specifies the test method for assessing the fire resistance of elevator landing doors. Landing doors are required to act as fire barriers, preventing the spread of fire and smoke through the hoistway, which can act as a chimney. The standard defines test conditions (furnace temperature curves to EN 1363-1, typically E30 or EW30), criteria for integrity (no flame penetration), and radiation limits. Doors tested to EN 81-58 can claim a fire resistance classification (E30, EW30, EI30) for use in fire-protected buildings. Compliance with EN 81-58 is referenced in EN 81-20 and the Construction Products Regulation (EU 305/2011).
