The elevator energy label (or energy efficiency class) categorises an elevator installation into one of seven classes (A–G, where A is most efficient) based on annual energy consumption per reference trip, standby power, and building usage profile. The classification methodology is defined by ISO 25745-2 (energy performance indicators for lifts) and VDI 4707 (German guideline for lift energy efficiency). Energy labels inform building owners about the operational cost of their lifts and provide a basis for retrofit decisions. Modern low-standby drives, LED lighting, sleep modes, and regenerative drives contribute to higher efficiency classes. Green building rating schemes (LEED, BREEAM) may credit elevator energy performance.
