The international standard series for measuring, calculating, and grading the energy performance of elevators, escalators, and moving walks across global markets.
Full Definition
ISO 25745 is a three-part series: Part 1 defines measurement methods for energy consumption; Part 2 covers energy calculation and classification for electric lifts, providing an A–G energy rating scheme comparable to household appliance labels; Part 3 covers hydraulic lifts. The standard measures standby power consumption, running consumption per trip, and annual energy use. It enables specifiers, building owners, and FM companies to compare elevator energy performance objectively and aligns with green building rating systems such as BREEAM and LEED which award credits for energy-efficient elevators. In the EU, the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) links to elevator energy efficiency, and ISO 25745 provides the measurement framework. Regenerative drives, LED lighting, standby shutdown, and VVVF technology are key contributors to a high energy rating.
