The car frame — also called a car sling — is the primary load-bearing structure of the elevator car assembly. It comprises an upper cross-head, two stiles (vertical members), a safety plank, and a lower cross-head that carries the platform. Suspension ropes attach at the cross-head; safety gear clamps are housed in the lower section. The frame must resist rated load plus dynamic shock forces during safety gear activation without permanent deformation, per EN 81-20 §5.2. Roller or sliding guide shoes are bolted to the stile extensions.
