The car operating panel (COP) is the primary passenger interface inside the cab. It includes floor-destination buttons with floor numbers or Braille markings, door open/close buttons, emergency stop button, alarm button, intercom, and position indicator. EN 81-70 specifies accessibility requirements: Braille labels, raised button centres, minimum button size, and COP positioning height (0.90–1.10 m) for wheelchair users. Many modern COPs include a touchscreen or voice-announcement module. In firefighter lifts (EN 81-72), the COP includes dedicated fireman controls with key-switch override.
