The car enclosure (or cab) is the aesthetic and functional interior of the elevator. It consists of wall panels (typically stainless steel, powder-coated mild steel, glass, or decorative laminates), a suspended or integrated ceiling with lighting, a floor (tiles, wood, carpet, or stainless), and a handrail. EN 81-20 §5.2 specifies minimum cab dimensions for various rated loads and mandates that walls and ceiling withstand minimum force without permanent deformation. Ventilation openings must total at least 1 % of floor area at ceiling and 1 % at floor level. The COP, emergency devices, and position indicator are integrated into the wall panels.
