Car call registration occurs when a passenger presses a floor button on the car operating panel (COP). The control system records the request and illuminates the button indicator to confirm registration. The dispatch algorithm uses registered car calls — along with hall calls — to determine the most efficient service sequence. Modern controllers can differentiate between registered and served calls, allowing buttons to extinguish once served and re-illuminate if re-pressed. In destination dispatch systems car call registration is replaced by pre-trip destination entry at the landing; there are no floor buttons inside the car. Car call registration data is also used for traffic analysis, service quality measurement, and predictive maintenance of the door operator and button mechanisms.
