Elevator cabin speakers serve several functions: accessibility voice announcements (floor number, direction, door status — required by EN 81-70 for accessible lifts), emergency communication (two-way voice via the alarm intercom per EN 81-20 Section 14.2.3), and optional background music or building announcement relay. Ceiling speakers are typically 2–4 inch full-range drivers (5–15 W, 4 or 8 Ω) flush-mounted in the false ceiling with grille covers. Amplifier modules are located in the cabin junction box or integrated into the controller. Audio input sources include pre-recorded NAND-flash synthesised voice (for floor announcements), line-level audio from building PA system (via travelling cable pair), and intercom audio from the emergency communication device. Sound pressure level in the cabin must reach ≥65 dB(A) at 1 m for voice intelligibility. The speaker and amplifier must be rated for the operating temperature range (−20°C to +60°C) and elevator vibration environment.
