An electronic indicator device inside the elevator cabin that shows the current floor position, direction of travel, overload warning, and optional multimedia content to passengers during the ride.
Full Definition
Cabin displays have evolved from analogue floor-pointer gauges through segmented LED and dot-matrix modules to modern TFT LCD and OLED screens. Basic units show floor number (7-segment LED, 2.5–5 inch) and direction arrows; integrated multimedia displays (7–15 inch portrait TFT) show floor info, building announcements, news, weather, and advertising content managed via a CMS. Display brightness must be ≥200 cd/m² (basic) or ≥500 cd/m² (multimedia) to be legible in artificially lit cabins. The display interfaces with the elevator controller via CAN bus, RS-485, or LAN. For accessibility, EN 81-70 requires the floor position to be announced audibly (synthesised voice or pre-recorded audio) in addition to visual indication. High-refresh multimedia displays may use a separate media player PC fed content via the travelling cable LAN pair. Mounting height for the primary floor indicator is typically 1800–2100 mm AFF.
