Slide Guide Shoe: Simple, Cost-Effective Rail Guidance for Low and Medium Speed Elevators

Glossary Slide Guide Shoe

A guide shoe with a replaceable sliding liner that contacts the guide rail directly, used in low-to-medium speed elevators for simple and cost-effective guidance.

Full Definition
Slide guide shoes consist of a cast housing with a replaceable plastic or bronze liner that slides along the guide rail face. The liner is lubricated — automatically via a grease cup or oil pad, or manually — to reduce friction and rail wear. Slide guide shoes are suitable for lifts up to approximately 2.5 m/s and are preferred in low-rise residential and commercial applications due to their simplicity, low cost, and ease of liner replacement. Worn liners cause noise, vibration, and accelerated rail wear if not replaced.
