Elevator RFID access control uses 125 kHz (EM4100 / HID Prox) or 13.56 MHz (MIFARE, DESFire) readers mounted in the car operating panel or at landing call stations to authenticate users before enabling floor selection. The reader communicates with an access control panel (ACP) which interfaces with the elevator controller via relay outputs, Wiegand protocol, or direct serial link. Floor-selective access restricts which destination floors a cardholder may select; time-based rules allow access only during defined hours. EN 81-20 does not specifically govern access control but requires that emergency functions (alarm, emergency lighting, firefighter operation) must never be blocked by access restriction systems. Integration with building management systems (BMS) enables audit trail logging, real-time monitoring, and remote credential management.
