The revision (inspection) control box (ГОСТ: пульт ревизионного управления) is required by EN 81-20 clause 5.12.1.2 on the car roof and by clause 5.2.6 in the pit. The car-roof version must include: a stop device (red, non-self-resetting), an inspection travel control device (hold-to-run up/down buttons), and a socket outlet. The car-roof inspection must override normal operation and restrict car speed to the inspection speed (≤0.63 m/s per EN 81-20). A maintenance technician activates the roof box before entering the car roof, holding the up or down button continuously to move the car — releasing the button immediately stops motion. The pit revision box provides the same functions from within the pit. Both must be wired in the safety chain such that normal operation cannot resume unless both boxes are reset.
