Rail bracket spacing defines the distance between successive fixing brackets that attach guide rails to the hoistway. EN 81-20 specifies maximum spacing based on car speed, rated load, and safety gear type. Excessive spacing increases rail deflection, causing car vibration and accelerated guide shoe wear. Typical spacing is 1.5–2.5 m. Bracket alignment is verified with a plumb line during installation.
