Machine room air conditioning maintains the ambient temperature in the elevator machine room within the range specified by EN 81-20 (typically 5–40°C) and controls humidity to prevent condensation on electronic control equipment. Elevated temperatures reduce motor insulation life, increase bearing wear, and impair electronic controller performance. The HVAC system must provide sufficient cooling capacity for the total heat dissipation of all installed equipment. Fresh air ventilation must prevent accumulation of hazardous gases. Equipment must continue operating during a power failure if a UPS is provided.
