Hall calls are the conventional way passengers summon an elevator. Each landing has one or two buttons (up only at the bottom floor, down only at the top, both in between) that register a directional call with the group controller or simplex controller. In conventional collective control, the controller assigns the nearest or most efficient car to answer the call. Hall call buttons typically include an LED confirmation lamp and are often accompanied by a position indicator showing current car location. Accessibility requirements under EN 81-70 specify minimum button size, positioning height, and tactile marking for hall call fixtures.
