Full Load Test: 100% Rated Load All Functions, 125% Brakes Hold, Safety Gear Governor Trigger, Buffer and ARD Tests, LOLER Certificate

The full load test (also called the rated load test or acceptance test load test) is a mandatory test performed during commissioning and during LOLER thorough examinations. Key test procedures: (1) Rated load test: the car is loaded to 100% of rated load and all normal functions (starting, stopping, levelling, door operation, speed, acceleration, deceleration) are verified to meet specifications; (2) 125% overload test: at commissioning (EN 81-20 cl. 14.2.4 load test), the car is loaded to 125% of rated load and the elevator is operated — the brakes must hold the car stationary on the ropes without slipping; (3) Safety gear test (governor trigger test): the safety gear is triggered (by manually tripping the governor or electronically simulating an overspeed signal) while the car descends with rated load — the safety gear must stop the car and hold it on the guide rails within the specified deceleration range; (4) Buffer test: at low speed the car (with rated load or counterweight as applicable) is driven onto the buffers to verify the buffer strokes and that no permanent structural deformation results; (5) ARD test: the ARD is tested by simulating a power failure with the car between floors — the ARD must bring the car to the nearest landing within the specified time. Full load testing requires ballast weights (typically steel weights or water containers) available on site. Test results are recorded in the commissioning certificate and in the examination report.
