A smartphone application that allows users to call elevators, enter destinations, and receive arrival notifications without touching elevator buttons.
Full Definition
Elevator mobile apps connect passengers' smartphones to the elevator group control system via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Wi-Fi, or NFC. As the passenger approaches the elevator lobby, the app detects proximity to the elevator beacon and automatically registers a hall call or destination call. The passenger receives the assigned car number on their phone screen and is guided to the correct car. This eliminates the need to press buttons — providing touchless operation — and enables personalisation features such as preferred floor, language, and accessibility settings. Mobile apps are integrated with destination dispatch systems and building access control (the app verifying the user's floor permissions). During COVID-19 the technology saw rapid adoption. Major manufacturers including Schindler, KONE, Otis, and ThyssenKrupp have released mobile app platforms.
