Destination Dispatch Elevators: How DOAS Works and Why It Cuts Waiting Times by Up to 50%

Glossary Destination Dispatch Control

A smart dispatching system where passengers enter their destination floor before boarding, allowing the system to group passengers travelling to similar floors into the same car.

Full Definition
Destination dispatch (also called Destination Oriented Allocation System or DOAS) replaces traditional up/down hall buttons with a keypad or touchscreen where passengers enter their destination floor. The controller groups passengers with similar destinations into the same car, reducing the total number of stops and significantly lowering average waiting and journey times in busy office towers. Dispatching intelligence considers current car loads, positions, directions, and pending calls. Integration with access control systems is common — swiping a badge automatically registers the home floor. Multiple studies show 30–50 % reduction in waiting times compared to conventional group control in high-traffic scenarios.
