Dual car control (duplex control) coordinates two elevators serving the same floors, sharing hall call buttons so that only one car responds to each hall call. The controller assigns each hall call to the car best positioned to respond, reducing average waiting time compared to two independently operating elevators. When one car is out of service, the other automatically takes all hall calls. Dual car control is widely used in mid-rise commercial and residential buildings with two elevators.
