The door frame (also called door buck, entrance frame, or transom assembly) is a steel fabrication consisting of uprights (jambs), a header (transom), and a sill support that is built into the hoistway wall at each landing. It provides the structural mounting for the door track, landing door lock, sill, and architrave. Door frames must be plumb, square, and at the correct depth relative to the finished wall to ensure correct door panel clearances. In masonry construction, frames are set in the opening during construction; in steel-framed buildings, they are welded or bolted to floor slab edges.
