Full Definition
The compensation rope hitch is the terminal fitting that anchors each compensation rope to the underside of the elevator car and the bottom of the counterweight. Like hoist rope hitches, they must transmit the full rope tension without slippage and are typically wedge-socket or swaged-ferrule type. Compensation rope hitches must allow for rope length adjustment to maintain equal tension across all ropes. They are inspected during annual maintenance for signs of wire break accumulation, corrosion, or hitch body cracking.
