The car sill is a precision-machined aluminium or steel extrusion fixed to the underside of the car entrance frame. Its upper face carries longitudinal grooves that guide the car door panel bottom blocks, and its leading edge must align with the landing sill so the horizontal gap does not exceed 35 mm (EN 81-20 §8.3.3) and the vertical step does not exceed 10 mm at the levelling position. The toe guard mounts to the underside of the car sill and extends downward to block the space between car and hoistway wall. Sill condition — checked for deformation, groove debris, and levelness — is a routine periodic maintenance item whose neglect can cause door jams and passenger trip hazards.
