Elevator Car Preference Control: VIP Key-Switch, Tenant Zoning, RFID Access Control and Anti-Nuisance Feature

Car preference control (also called car assignment, car priority, or dedicated car service) is a controller feature available in modern group controllers and destination dispatch systems. Modes of operation: (1) VIP / executive service — a key-switch or access code at a COP or hall station activates exclusive car service; the car responds only to calls from the authorised person's floor or designation; all other passengers are excluded for the duration; (2) Tenant zoning — in a multi-tenancy building, elevator groups can be programmed to serve specific tenants' floor zones during business hours, preventing inter-tenant access via the elevator; (3) Security mode — a key-switch locks out all non-authorised floor access; only floors accessible to the card-holder or key-holder are enabled; (4) Anti-nuisance feature — if a car makes stops where no passenger boards (button pressed without legitimate intent), the controller records the number of empty stops and cancels the car's floor registrations above a threshold, requiring re-registration; (5) Attendant service — an attendant inside the car overrides automatic control; the car only moves when the attendant holds a direction button. Integration with access control: modern group controllers integrate with building access control systems (RFID card readers at hall stations) so that the accessible floors are determined by the card-holder's access rights. Car preference is distinguished from firefighter mode and evacuation mode, which are safety functions governed by EN 81-72 and EN 81-76.
