The car frame crosshead is the upper horizontal structural member of the elevator car frame (sling) that connects the two vertical stiles. It carries the hoist rope attachments or the suspension points of the car sling, transferring all suspension loads into the frame. The crosshead must be designed to withstand static rope pull, dynamic impact during safety gear actuation, and eccentric loads. On traction elevators, the crosshead typically houses the rope hitch plate or equaliser bar. Correct crosshead geometry is critical for even load distribution across all suspension ropes.
