Rope end terminations transfer the full rope tension into a fixed anchor point. The three main types are: resin (white metal) socketed terminations, which embed the splayed rope wires in a cast resin within a conical socket; wedge-type terminations, which use a metal wedge to grip the rope in a tapered sleeve; and swaged ferrule terminations for smaller-diameter governor ropes. EN 81-20 §5.5 requires that each termination achieve at least 80 % of the rope's minimum breaking force. Proper installation — including correct wire spread and full resin fill — is essential; incorrect assembly is a common cause of premature rope failure.
