Parking Floor: Automatic Home Position & Response Time Optimisation

Glossary Parking Floor

The designated floor to which an elevator returns automatically after a period of inactivity, ready for the next call.

Full Definition
The parking floor (home floor or base landing) is the floor to which an elevator or a car in a group automatically returns and parks when it has been idle for a defined period (typically 30–120 seconds). In a simplex installation, this is usually the main lobby. In a group installation, different cars may be parked at different floors to optimise initial response time. The parking floor can be programmed in the controller and may be changed by time-of-day scheduling (morning peak: lobby; evening peak: top floor). Returning to the parking floor when idle reduces average hall call response time and is part of basic traffic management logic.
