IoT Elevator: How Sensors, Cloud Analytics and Remote Diagnostics Transform Lift Maintenance

Glossary › IoT Elevator

An elevator integrated with Internet of Things sensors and cloud connectivity to enable real-time performance monitoring, remote diagnostics, and data-driven maintenance decisions.

Full Definition
An IoT elevator embeds sensors on key components — door operators, motors, brakes, guide shoes, and ropes — and transmits data via an IoT gateway to a cloud analytics platform. Monitored parameters include door cycle counts and force trends, motor current signatures, vibration spectra, brake release timing, car levelling accuracy, and energy consumption per trip. The platform raises alerts when sensor readings deviate from established baselines, triggering condition-based maintenance before a failure occurs. Remote diagnostics allow a service engineer to interrogate fault codes, review event logs, and often resolve issues without a site visit — reducing mean-time-to-repair and improving availability. Data can feed into building management systems (BMS), FM dashboards, and tenant-facing apps. Leading platforms include KONE 24/7 Connected Services, Otis ONE, Schindler Ahead, and TK Elevator MAX.
