The door zone sensor — typically a magnetic or optical vane switch interacting with a floor-mounted cam — signals the controller that the car is within the defined zone (usually ±150 mm from the landing sill) where it is safe to open doors and perform relevelling. Outside the door zone, door opening is inhibited by the safety circuit. Accurate door zone detection is essential for passenger safety, preventing trips between the car sill and landing sill, and is required by EN 81-20 and ASME A17.1.
