Elevator door synchronization is the electronic and mechanical coordination of two or more door panels in a centre-opening or multi-panel door system so that all panels move at matched velocities and reach their end positions simultaneously. In mechanically synchronised doors, a master-slave linkage ensures equal and opposite panel speeds. In electronically synchronised systems, each panel may have its own motor, with the door controller comparing encoder feedback from all panels and adjusting individual motor outputs in real time. Poor synchronisation causes asymmetric gap profiles, unequal wear on hangers and sill inserts, and potential light-curtain blind spots. EN 81-20 does not define synchronisation tolerances explicitly, but manufacturers specify maximum allowable lead/lag between panels.
