The elevator door skate (also called a door bottom guide or sill runner) is a small component attached to the bottom edge of each door panel. It fits into the sill groove and constrains the panel's lower edge laterally, preventing swinging or rattling during travel. Skates are typically moulded from nylon, Delrin, or glass-filled polyamide for durability and low friction. Worn skates cause door misalignment, sill groove damage, and increased operating noise. Replacement is straightforward: the panel is lifted slightly to disengage the skate from the sill groove. Skate geometry must match the sill groove profile; manufacturers specify compatible combinations. Inspection at each maintenance visit includes checking skate wear depth and groove clearance.
