Glossary Elevator Chemical Anchor

A post-installed fastener system in which a two-component resin adhesive (epoxy, polyester, or vinylester) is injected into a drilled hole to bond a threaded rod or rebar to concrete or masonry, used to fix elevator guide rail brackets, machine bases, and buffer supports.

Full Definition
Chemical anchors (adhesive anchors) are specified for elevator installations where expansion anchors are unsuitable — particularly in cracked concrete, low edge distances, close anchor spacing, or seismic applications. The resin bonds chemically with the concrete substrate and the anchor rod, distributing load over the full bonded length rather than through mechanical expansion. Common resin systems include Hilti HIT-RE 500, Fischer FIS V, and Sika AnchorFix series. Installation procedure is critical: the hole must be drilled to the correct diameter and depth, cleaned with a brush and compressed air (minimum 3 passes of each), and the resin fully cured before loading (cure time depends on temperature: 24 hours at 20°C, up to 72 hours at 5°C). Load-bearing capacity is verified by design per ETAG 001 Annex C or EAD 330232-00-0601 (current CEN document), and pull-out tests are performed for critical anchor groups. In Turkey, TS EN 1992-4 and relevant ETA documents govern chemical anchor design.
