Full Definition
The buffer test is a mandatory acceptance and periodic test verifying energy absorption performance. For oil buffers, the car or counterweight runs into the buffer at rated speed (or 115% for car buffers per EN 81-20) and deceleration, compression, and return time are measured. Deceleration must not exceed 1g average or 2.5g instantaneous. Results are recorded in the test certificate.
